Design & Technology

Design and Technology in Key Stage 3:

Across Key Stage 3 the Design & Technology (D&T) curriculum covers a variety of skills and knowledge to help prepare students ready to pursue a Key Stage 4 GCSE course of study.
This is done by rotating student group every new term to undertake a different module of work, with a different subject specialist, whether it is textiles, resistant materials, CAD/CAM, Design Principles or Electronics.

Some of the modules of work in Year 9 give tasters and tasks that are directly related to the KS4 courses of study for Construction and DEC! The KS3 D&T curriculum also includes one Food Prep & Nutrition module each year, to help prepare students for the GCSE in Food Prep & Nutrition.

At Key Stage 3 students are assessed across a range of disciplines, skills, knowledge and abilities to create an understanding of their abilities holistically, rather than individual narrow criteria.
This is done through assessing the designing, developing, research and manufacturing skills at regular intervals over the year.

Courses offered in Key Stage 4:

Construction: City & Guilds Level 1

Design & Technology GCSE

DEC! (Design, Engineer, Construct) Level 2

Food Preparation & Nutrition GCSE

For more information on each course, please look at the correct page in the Options Booklet.
