Art
The Art Curriculum.
We are committed to nurturing the creativity and individuality of every student, fostering a deep appreciation for the power of self-expression and cultural understanding. Aligned with the school’s broader vision, we strive to challenge and inspire students to explore and develop their artistic potential, embracing the diversity of ideas and approaches that fuel artistic innovation.
Through inspirational teaching, high expectations, and a commitment to excellence, our students will cultivate the skills and confidence to communicate visually and meaningfully. We will provide a dynamic, inclusive environment where all students - regardless of background or experience - feel empowered to push their boundaries, take risks, and express their unique perspectives.
Our curriculum encourages critical thinking, exploration of different media, and engagement with global artistic practices, preparing students to contribute positively to society. We aim to equip students not only with technical proficiency but with the vision to make meaningful contributions to their communities, both locally and globally. In doing so, we foster a love for the arts as a lifelong pursuit, creating individuals who are ready to make a difference in the world through their creative voices.
Art motto: Take something ordinary and make it extraordinary.
The Jersey Curriculum:
Art in Key Stage 3:
Our emphasis at Key Stage 3 is the development of core skills, techniques and processes and a firm understanding of the formal elements of art and design. Interleaving skills, techniques and processes, underpinned by artist/contextual inspiration throughout every stage at KS3, empowers students with the confidence to harness their creativity in order to produce original and highly personalised outcomes, in response to each project theme. Students work through a series of projects that enable them to develop understanding of a variety of techniques and processes, whilst understanding how they can learn from the work of others. We explore the work of artists and designers from a wide variety of contexts, and students are supported in the development of their critical and analytical skills.
Lesson work is supported by homework, which present opportunities to extend learning beyond the classroom with self-directed and in-depth explorations of a theme. Students have one art lesson a week. We aim to give every student the widest possible experience of media, including drawing, painting, printmaking and mixed-media.
The work of students is assessed continually in class and homework is also used to assess progress. Students are assessed against these criteria: KS3 Assessment Criteria
