How students are assessed in PE:

In both Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 core PE lessons, students are assessed continuously throughout each unit of work using our assessment grids. Students may be better at some sports than others, but they are given an overall assessment grade. (See grids below.)

In GCSE PE, students are assessed for theory (50%) and practical work (50%). Practically, students are assessed in 4 sports. These are filmed, moderated and then submitted to the exam board. Please see the link below for a list of the accepted sports by the exam board iGCSE 0995-

Some sports maybe filmed during school time; these include weight-training and athletics. Other sports require the students to film themselves in their sport and to then be submitted to the PE Department for marking and then sent to the exam board.

For the exam, students are continuously and informally assessed throughout each lesson by means of questioning and using exam style questions. Students will also sit 4 end of unit tests. Students will also sit a mock paper exam in Year 10 and two mocks in Y11.

How we support your child to succeed and where they can access help:

Key Stage 3 & Practical Key Stage 4:

If students require further support, we highly recommend that students speak with their class teacher or any other member of the PE Department. The best way to practically support a student at home is to encourage them to participate is as many sports as possible and to encourage a healthy and active lifestyle. Where possible we encourage students to participate in sport outside of school as this will help with their final practical performance at GCSE.

Key Stage 4 GCSE PE:

Students are provided with all the resources they need for the GCSE by the department of which includes, a revision mind map of all the topics covered.

Past papers & mark schemes are printed and kept in our office for students to collect whenever they need them.

GCSEPOD is also a great resource that we frequently use; students can access informative videos and assessment questions.

On YouTube, there is a great channel that breaks down each topic into small videos with videos and is specific to the syllabus:
