Year 9 is a vital year in your child’s schooling as it is the year that they make their decisions regarding their education for 14+. Starting with their option choices for GCSEs in Years 10 and 11, these decisions will influence the rest of their schooling and life beyond Le Rocquier. We, as a year team, endeavour to help students make informed decisions about their future through detailed Careers lessons, Options assemblies, an Options Evening for students and parents and one-to-one interviews with members of staff.
As a parent you can support us by ensuring you attend the Options Evening Parents’ Evenings. This will ensure you receive all relevant information and can help your child to make the right choices for their future. As the results of the end of Year 9 tests will also help to inform GCSE setting, parents can also support students with their revision and liaise with subject teachers if they have any concerns.
Also in Year 9, students take part in a variety of activity days, fund-raising events, sporting events (including the whole school Sports Day) and Induction Days into Year 10.
In such an important year, we would ask that you keep regular contact with your child’s tutor and inform us of any concerns that you may have. In addition, if your child achieves anything outside school we would love to hear about it and help to celebrate their successes both in and out of school with the year group.
