Headteacher’s Welcome

Le Rocquier is a community school serving the eastern parishes of Jersey, but many parents choose to send their children here from all parts of the Island.  We are proud of our focus on high expectations in the classroom while striving through our shared values and mission, to instil a strong sense of community and purpose which is reflected in our motto of Learn, Respect and Succeed.   Do please take the time to read our Mission Statement, as it describes in far more detail what the school is endeavouring to achieve for its students and how we turn that mission into day-to-day actions via our ‘Values in Action’ strategies.

We strive to provide a safe and highly supportive environment for the young people who enter through our doors and work tirelessly with them so that they develop into confident, happy and successful citizens, prepared for the global nature of the 21st century world around them.

Mr Andrew Adkin
Headteacher

Our 2022 exams results are very good and will be shared in detail on our website in November.  But to give you an idea, 94% of students passed English Literature and over 80% of our GCSE subjects added value meaning that students achieved higher than predicted.  Several subjects had 100% pass rates.  The vast majority of students progressed easily on to Level 3 (A Level, IB or BTEC) at Highlands College, Hautlieu School, Victoria College and Jersey College for Girls.  A very pleasing number now have apprenticeships or pathways to success at 16+.  We saw success in all areas.

Le Rocquier School serves the east of Jersey and we are Jersey’s largest secondary school on the Island.  We provide a broad curriculum which is balanced, relevant, enjoyable and challenging to all our students.   We form a learning community of 800 students and over 110 staff housed in modern, well-equipped buildings on our large open campus.

It is a core belief of the school that all individuals are equally valued and that everyone treats one another with mutual respect. The backbone of our pastoral work in school is based upon core values exemplified by what we categorise as 'Behaviours for Learning'   We encourage all our students to take part in the many extracurricular activities on offer and supported to so that they achieve as highly, in an academic sense, as they are able.

We seek to provide a caring community which encourages concern and respect for the welfare of others and one that enables each individual to flourish.  To this end, the school places great emphasis on its pastoral system, with Form Tutors, Heads of Year, SEND Manager, PSHE taught curriculum, School Counsellor and Assistant Head (Wellbeing and Pastoral) all promoting the welfare and personal development of each and every pupil.

Le Rocquier School is an inclusive establishment in all respects, but focused on high quality teaching and learning.  We have a strong sense of loyalty from our students, but a cornerstone of our system is the fact that students can contact any member of staff, at any time during the school day, if they are worried about something, and that well-developed procedures then come into play.

Le Rocquier is resourced as the Islands school for Hearing Impaired children and British Sign Language is taught to all our students.  We are UN Children's Rights compliant (Bronze Award and working towards Silver Award) which ensures our work includes the voice of pupils through our School Council and other forums.

In addition, students have many opportunities to develop skills and personal qualities, both in the formal curriculum and in the extra-curricular life of the School. Leadership opportunities abound at the School – with Year 11 encouraged to help in a number of areas with Junior classes and a 'buddying' system operates in Years 7 and 8. Year 11's act as Prefects or School Captains.  These are in addition to the positions of responsibility that are within our extra-curricular provision e.g. Drama, Computing, Music and Sports.

Please do take the time to look through our website to gain a glimpse of what Le Rocquier has to offer.  The links below, to short videos, are also worth viewing as they show different aspects of life here.  We value our traditions, yet at the same time look to progress and offer our students the best possible education we can that prepares them for their next step – whether that be College, an apprenticeship or the world of work.
